England win Cycle Speedway home nations

CYCLE SPEEDWAY: World champion Steve Harris was on storming form as he guided England to a convincing victory in the home nations championship in Stoke. The England captain showed the sort of form he will need to produce if he is to add the European title to his World Championship crown in Poland next month. England were well clear of Scotland, while Ireland and Wales were equal third. Harris' Swindon Southbrook Inn colleague, Paul White, who rides for Wales and was their leading scorer, said: Steve was riding vintage style. England were so far ahead that three of their riders, including Steve, gave up a ride to give their reserves a go. Steve has got to be confident of adding the European Championship to his World title.   more...

Sailor on Song

YachtING: Thomas Mallindine produced another excellent display to finish in tenth place at the Dutch Nationals. The 12-year-old from Blunsdon was the first British sailor home in the field of 289 boats. The competition in the Netherlands was a warm up for the World Championships, which will take place in Spain in July. Thomas has already qualified for that tournament, and he was on top form once again against a high-quality field that featured most of the top performers in the Under-16 section.   more...
