WITH the defeat of Westinghouse at Swindon Nalgo, Marlborough retake the lead in the Division One.

They entertained lowly Minety and cruised to a daunting 294-6, thanks mainly to Nishanti Bordoloi (119 not out) and Nick Newman (77).

Minety then just played out their overs to deny Marlborough extra bowling points and closed on 107-5, with Graham Harris making 27 and Ben Head taking 4-13 in 10 overs.

At Swindon Nalgo the home side scored 183-7, with Shahad Zafar making 42 and Tahir Hanif 39. For Westinghouse John Cleverley took 3-42 and Peter Bailey 4-32 in 15 overs. The visitors' batsmen then collapsed to 63 all out against the pace of Maurice Beale, 4-24 in 10 overs, and Darren Fisher, 4-9 in 6.4.

Box and Hinton Charterhouse consolidated their mid-table position with wins against Potterne and Lechlade respectively.

At Box a fine 102 from Tony Trotman and Gerald Hayward's 63 enabled them to total 223-7. Nick Guy then took 3-28 in 13 overs as Potterne made 155-8 in reply.

At bottom-placed Lechlade, Hinton ended with 203-9, Bill Edwards (35 not out) top scoring and Kevin Sweet taking 4-58 in 15 overs. Yaki Hassan (41) top scored in Lechlade's response as they were bowled out for 164, Lee Hodgson taking 4-66 and Wayne Davies 4-27.

After suffering two narrow defeats, Calne reversed the trend with a two run home success against Buscot Park. Chris Drewitt (44) and Paul Richards (45) saw Calne to 165-7 as Solvick took 5-42. Chris Sykes in turn took 4-51 in 15 overs as despite the efforts of Tom Lockley (39) and Neil Phillips (35) Buscot's last wicket fell at 163 to the game's penultimate ball.

Division Two

COOPER-AVON Tyres entertained leaders Bath Civil Service and put up a good performance before losing by four wickets with 14 balls left.

Batting first, Cooper-Avon were indebted to Dave Lite (49) and Dean Wallington (39) as they scored 180-8. For Civil Service Mike Sharma took 5-55 in 15 overs. It was a solid 86 by Keith Smith which was the foundation on which the visitors' victory was based.

Beanacre recovered from their recent lapses to inflict a nine-wicket defeat upon visitors Highworth. Batting first, Highworth scored 189-8, with Alan Smith making 59, Sam Armstrong 37 and Richard Millar 34. For Beanacre the Nairn boys took the bowling honours, 3-50 from Ian and 3-55 by Andy. Steve Copland (96 not out) and Tim Tandy (56 not out) then made light of the target as they raced to an unbroken second wicket stand of 139 to see Beanacre to victory with six overs to spare.

Spye Park moved off the bottom of the table at the expense of fellow strugglers Bradford Town. Martin Halls (62) top scored in Spye's 166-8 before Paul Rose took 3-30 in 12 overs to help restrict Bradford to 147-6 in response.

Division Three

SWINDON Civil Service and Sutton Veny appear to be running away with the division as the next three sides all lost.

Civil Service travelled to Bradford Town 2nds and scored a good 198-7, thanks to Stuart Smith (51), Mike Giddings (49) and Andy Mildenhall (41 not out). Bradford's most successful bowler was Trevor Brain, with 3-37 in 14 overs.

It became the Mildenhall show when he followed up with 8-22 in 12.2 overs, a league best for Civil Service. Only Stuart Neate (23) reached double figures as Bradford crashed to 60 all out.

Mat Reid (106 not out) led Sutton Veny to 200-2 at home to fourth placed Seagry, who were bowled out for 111 in reply, Colin Brown taking 5-32 in 10 overs.

Third placed Bath Hospitals lost ground as they slipped up at home to Dauntsey Gentlemen. Mike Hill (40), Eric Hoarse (37) and Mark Grosvenor (32 not out) helped the Hospitals to 160-9, as Steve Coombe took 5-22. Gavin Walter (77 not out) steered Dauntsey to a seven wicket win with 11 balls to spare.

Collingbourne got back to winning ways as they defeated hosts Lambourn by 75 runs. Tim Nicholls (46) top scored in their 203 all out, with Lambourn's Kim Read taking 4-55 in 10 overs. Gordon Mackerell (4-31 in 10 overs) and Paul Isherwood (4-36 in 15 overs) were then mainly responsible for bowling Lambourne out for 128 in the 39th over.

At Moredon Royal Oak, Robin New (3-27) and Steve French (4-21) helped dismiss visiting Wanborough for 118. They went on to a four wicket win despite Nick Stacey's 4-23.

Division Four

THE top three sides all cruised to victories. Leaders Nationwide struggled for runs at Nettleton and only a stubborn 31 by Andy Marlow and 22 from Nick Archer enabled them to scramble to 122-8, as Tony Bleakin took 4-45 in 14 overs.

Steve Lewis (5-21 in 8.5 overs) and Mark Morris (5-12 in nine) then shot Nettleton out for 34 in just 17.5 overs, equalling their lowest ever league score.

Blunsdon restricted visiting Westbury 3rds to 158-8, Phil Mead contributing a patient 58 not out. Kevin Aubrey (59 not out) and Chris Hambling (67 not out) made light of the target as Blunsdon eased to a nine-wicket win.

Bathford entertained Hungerford 3rds and scored 169 all out, with useful innings coming from Paul Jackson (29), Steve Ball (24), Paul Merrit (26) and a farewell innings of 41 from Steve Self before he moves to Ireland. For Hungerford Mark Westbrook took 6-33 in 12 overs.

Unfortunately the visitors' batting again let them down as Daryl Watts took 6-16 in eight overs and without Nick Westbrook's 17 the Hungerford score would have looked even worse than its final 43 all out.

Division Five

THERE was no change at the top of this division as the top four sides all won.

Leaders United Churches restricted Heytesbury to 152-6, with John Livsey making a fine 74 as Terry Scraggs bowled a tight spell of 2-21 in his 15 overs. Despite Justin Wagstaff replying with 5-37 in 15 overs, it was 45 by Martin Truella which helped Churches to a narrow two wicket win, with nine overs in hand.

Second place Wroughton raced to 244-9, with Angus Wilson (45) and Alan Stratford (47) the major contributors. Visiting Chippenham 3rds then crashed to their all time league low of 33 all out as Mike Evans, 5-14, and Mark McMeekin, 5-14, did the damage.

Swindon 3rds, thanks to an excellent 132 not out from Josh Deaman, totalled 261-4 at home to GWR Extra 2nds, who were bowled out for 206 in reply.

Wilcot scored 176-8 at home to Burbage and ER 2nds, thanks to Roger Cope (62) and Mark Lucas (55). For Burbage Alan Wheeler took 4-15 in five overs and then top scored with 44 in the visitors' 137-9, Roger taking 3-33 in 14 accurate overs.

Surprise was the victory of bottom placed Corsham 3rds over Warminster 3rds. Visitors Corsham scored 156-9 and then bowled their hosts out for 126.

Division Six A

HINTON Charterhouse 2nds continue to hold a tight grip on the lead following a comfortable home win by seven wickets against Bradford Town 3rds.

The visitors made 146 all out, then Terry Simmons (53) spearheaded the victory chase.

A weakened Wootton Bassett 3rds entertained second placed Keevil and were comprehensively defeated by ten wickets after crashing to an all time club low of 18 all out. Keevil knocked off the runs off in four overs.

Cooper-Avon Tyres 2nds travelled to Bath Civil Service 2nds and restricted them to 141-9. Gerald Larque (52 not out) then steered them to a narrow two wicket win with three overs to spare.

Bottom of the table Westinghouse 2nds won at the expense of visiting Beanacre 2nds. Beanacre scored 139 all out, with Ian Howard top scoring with 56. He then took 5-39 in 13 overs, but thanks to Paul Leat (32) and Peter Burstonshaw (25) the home team triumphed by three wickets.

Division Six B

CORSHAM Station increased their lead at the top as they won at Dauntsey Gentlemen 2nds while nearest rivals Biddestone 2nds slipped up at home to Marlborough 2nds.

At Dauntsey Corsham Station scored a solid 159-4, thanks largely to Stuart Wakely's excellent 80 not out.

For Dauntsey veteran Joe Thompson was the pick of their bowlers with figures of 2-27 in 15 very accurate overs.

Steve Drew responded with an even more miserly return of 15-9-3-11 which restricted Dauntsey to 117-9, in which Andy Cook top scored with a patient 51 not out.

A high scoring match at Biddestone saw visiting Marlborough 2nds race to 282-5, thanks to B Joyti (118), Nick Crabbe (73) and Jirvan (57 not out).

Aaron Bell responded with 73 and had good support from Dave Smith (38) but this was not enough as Biddestone were bowled out for 224 with three overs remaining.

This defeat allowed Buscot Park 2nds to narrow the gap as they won at home to Goatacre 3rds. Phil O'Dea (43) and Andy Donegan (45) helped Goatacre to 207-6 and Colin Beattie then took 4-42 in 7.3 overs.

However Peter Stone (51) and Ray O'Neil (50) helped Buscot to a four wicket win with just three balls to spare.

Box 2nds gained a welcome win at Potterne 2nds as they scored 186-7, thanks to Mick Warren (53), Eric Martell (39) and Richard Gray (33). For Potterne James Down took 3-47. Then, apart from Andy Morgan (24), the Potterne batsmen struggled against the bowling of Box skipper John Tooth, who took 6-27 in his 15 overs, and they were all out for 81.

Division Seven A

LACOCK and Beehive Bradford continue to battle for second place after both won.

Lacock entertained United Churches 2nds and dismissed them for 128. Nick Oakhill bowled well to take 5-41 in 13.3 overs, though, thanks to some wayward bowling the visitors' score was enhanced by a top score 30 extras, including 19 wides.

Some good early bowling by Cherhill restricted Lacock's reply at first and at 29-2 they were in some trouble.

An undefeated stand of 100 between Phil Steans (59 not out) and Charlie Doel (42 not out) then saw Lacock home by eight wickets with 16 overs to spare.

At Bradford, the Beehive scored 201-6, thanks to a mature 55 from a mature Vince Gay, ably supported by John Sheppard's 36 not out. Andy Goddard then took 3-17 in six overs and John Taylor 2-24 as, despite 44 by Mike Noel, visiting Bathford 2nds were bowled out for 117 in the 29th over.

Division Seven B

LAVINGTON and Devizes 3rds consolidated their positions at the top of the division without having to play.

Both their opponents, Wootton Bassett 4ths and Chippenham 4ths, had to concede the games due to shortage of players.

Highworth 2nds moved above their opponents Cherhill 2nds after defeating them by 21 runs.

Highworth scored 147 all out, then bowled Cherhill out for 126, with two balls remaining.

A fine 103 not out by A Malik and 57 from Paul Meadows helped Warminster 4ths to 212-5. They then bowled their hosts Collingbourne 2nds out for 143.
