From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Tuesday 6th Feb 2001.
Ashton Keynes marksman William Jones has blasted 40 goals in just 13 matches this season.
The 12-year-old's predatory skills have taken his under-12s team to the top of the Cirencester and District League. They have won 30 of their last 32 games.
William has contributed more than three quarters of Ashton Keynes' haul of 53 goals in the current campaign. His strike rate stands at over three per game.
Team manager Martin Carter rates his young striker extremely highly.
"He's like a little ferret," he said. "He's a natural, he's quick and he knows where the goal is. He has got that striker's instinct.
"Word seems to have got round about him and teams are marking him very tightly."
William would rather credit his team-mates than dwell on his own talents.
He said: "The team supplies the goals. They give me good passes. We keep winning because we work well together. Most of my goals are one-on-ones."
William's ambition is to play for Arsenal.
He scored twice on Sunday in Ashton Keynes' 6-2 win over Malmesbury. Four other players netted and Mr Carter feels that the rest of the side is starting to ease the goalscoring burden on their star forward.
