BUSINESSES handed over £430 to help support the work of the North Wiltshire Young People's Theatre Group, after teenagers helped out at a gala event in December.
President of the Chippenham Chamber of Commerce, Arju Miah, presented a cheque to the youngsters at Sheldon School last week.
Around 15 members of the North Wiltshire Young People's Theatre Group helped out at the Employee of the Year gala evening in the Neeld Hall, undertaking ushering and waiting duties.
"They did a great job," said chamber secretary Sandra Young.
The theatre group received the proceeds of a prize draw held on the evening.
"I feel the evening was a great success as it is possibly the first time the members of the North Wilts Young People's Theatre Group have been introduced to that type of environment," said member Matt Jenkins.
He said they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The theatre group was set up for young people aged 12 to 17 interested in drama.
The group is supported by Kandu Arts for Sustainable Development.
Chamber president Mr Miah, who owns the Taj Mahal restaurant in the Causeway, was recently elected to serve a second term.
