SWINDON'S David Howell will be fighting to make the half-way cut tonight in the PGA Championship after a gruelling opening round in Tulsa.
The 32-year-old battled temperatures of over 100 degrees at Southern Hills yesterday, dropping three shots in the first five holes and ultimately carding a five-over par 75.
That left him 10 behind surprise leader - fellow Englishman Greame Storm.
Howell was in good company though, as the likes of Vijay Singh, Jim Furyk and Henrik Stenson also scored 75.
Even world No 1 Tiger Woods struggled in the searing heat, finishing at one-over par.
John Daly provided the best challenge to Storm at three under.
