Hygiene ratings go on the web

Kennet District Council has launched its Food Hygiene Star Rating Scheme. This is a new web based way for members of the public to view the hygiene standards of local food businesses. The initial results are now published on its website at www.kennet.gov.uk Samantha Colley, Senior Environmental Health Office at Kennet said "We have been encouraged by the positive reaction to this new Scheme. Food business operators have welcomed the awarding of stars as a means of recognising the standard of food hygiene being achieved. We have issued 28 certificates so far including 12 certificates for 4 or 5 Stars which acknowledges a Very Good or Excellent standard of food hygiene. We have also issued nine certificates rated 2 Stars or less and we are working closely with those businesses to help them to improve standards."  more...

Father and son duo are champs

FATHER and son team Steve and Wayne Snook began the winter session on a roll by winning the county pairs competition last Sunday. The Melksham and Shaw pair sealed their win with a nail biting 7-6 victory against Seend team Colin Waldeck and Don Hatt in the final. Steve and Wayne beat off competition from 33 other teams to take the title at the Christie Miller Sports Centre. Westbury Blue Circle had teams in both semi finals, but Graham Cox and Maureen Jelly were defeated by the winners while Paul Marden and Andy Jelly lost out to Seend.   more...

Final time trial

SUNDAY saw the final event in the Chippenham Wheelers Club Time Trial Championship. The event was a 50 mile time trial, on the A419 around Cirencester and Cricklade. A strong breeze from the south making the downward stretch a little harder but aiding the riders going north.The event was also part of the West DC Club Championship and the winning team was Bath. Chippenham Wheelers' times: Gary Woodward 2hr 03m 52secs, Steve Barber 2hr 10m 14secs, Neil Davies 2hr 16m 15secs, John Lewis 2hr 36m 07secs, Roy Burden 2hr 49m 13secs.
